Markets are the best places to find something unique and special. Perhaps the most beautiful I have visited and continue to visit are the Mathilda’s Markets held in various locations around Australia, check out their website for more information www.mathildasmarket.com.au The best bit about Mathilda’s is that it is specific to little ones. Enter at your own risk, with all the gorgeous stalls it is difficult to walk away empty handed.

Markets are always a great place to pick up quality pre loved goods. A very popular market with mums and mums to be is the Baby and Kids Market held nationally. The great thing about these markets is that the goods are of a good quality and big items such as prams and high chairs are available. Check out their website www.babykidsmarket.com.au. The markets are usually held on Sunday mornings; get there early if you want to get your hands on some great buys. If you have a pregnant friend or a friend who is a mum – take them along and make a morning out of it (baby markets tend to freak my husband out!)

Talking of second hand goods, I recently discovered a shop in Glenferrie Road, Malvern that sells second hand goods. Apparently it has been there for around twenty years so I can’t imagine how many times I have walked past! They have a website too www.secondchildhood.com.au

Tips for hitting the markets

1. If you see something you like grab it! If it is a preloved kids good market it probably wont be there when you come back.

2. Same goes for unique and one off items.

3. If you are going to a preloved market, do some research on the big ticket items beforehand. Know what they retail for and the different models available.

4. Get there early, remember the early bird catches the worm!

5. Make a day out of it, grab a friend and a take away coffee (maybe a decaf if you are so inclined!)
